Meeting the Needs of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and Special-Needs Students in Rural Communities: A Report on McREL's Diversity Roundtable IV

Product Description

This document is a compilation of two Web conferences, which served as the venue for discussion at the fourth McREL Diversity Roundtable, held October 1 and 3, 2002. The roundtable was convened to help educators realize the vision of standards-based reform—high levels of performance for all students.

This document includes questions and answers based on the research, insight, strategies, and recommendations presented during the roundtable.

Rural administrators, service providers, and teachers joined in the roundtable discussions to engage in a dialog with recognized national experts on two significant needs in today’s rural classrooms:

  • teaching English-language learners, and

  • differentiating instruction to enhance learning for special-needs students.
